A Long History
Tae kwon do is the art of self defense and originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back over 2,000 years. The name aptly describes the practice, meaning the Art of Hand and Foot, or Tae (foot) Kwon (hand) Do (art).
Taekwondo is one of two Asian martial arts included on the Olympics. Taekwondo was introduced at the 1988 Seoul Games, and became an official medal sport at the 2000 Sydney Games. The sport is practiced in 188 countries and there were over seven million individuals with black belts in the world as of the end of 2008.
An Experienced Master
With over 30 years of experience, Master Lu is 4th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Escrima. Hapkido is a style of martial arts originating from Korea that emphasizes using footwork and your opponent’s energy to gain leverage in hand-to-hand combat. Escrima is the national martial art of the Philippines with over 3,000 years of history, and incorporates the use of weapons such as sticks traditionally made from rattan.
