We Are US Tae Kwon Do Academy

We moved from Schaumburg and opened our new home in Hanover Park in February 2020. When the pandemic struck we were closed until June 2020. Since then we have been growing steadily. A BIG THANK YOU to the Village of Hanover Park for your unrelenting support. Thank you also to the communities in which our students reside Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, Schaumburg and Streamwood for your continual support. US Taekwondo Academy is proud to have the honor to have trained hundreds of area students through out the years. Many of our students have enjoyed our programs in Taekwondo, Hapkido, Self-Defense, Afterschool and E-Learning Center have accelerated in other interests. Humbled that many of our students achieved the level of Black Belt.

Taekwondo: the Korean art of Hand and Foot, one of the oldest forms of martial arts (reaching back over 2,000 years), and the most widely practiced martial art in the world. Training involves learning a system of blocks, kicks, punches, and open-handed strikes, as well as varying forms of takedowns, throws, and joint locks, all of which develop strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. Taekwondo is known for its emphasis on kicking techniques, as compared to other martial arts such as karate. In addition to self-defense training, students learn prearranged sequences of techniques known as forms, Poomsaes, or Taegueks (known in other martial arts as Katas). Tae kwon do and Judo are currently the only two martial arts included in the Olympic Games.

Stick Fighting-By invitation only

Arnis, also known as Kali or Eskrima/Escrima, is the national Martial Art of the Philippine’s. The three are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippine’s (“Filipino Martial Arts, or FMA), which emphasize weapon based fighting with sticks, knives, bladed weapons, and various improvised weapons, as well as “open hand” techniques without weapons. today is known as the various weapons fighting arts practiced in the Philippines. The name is similar to the Spanish word for fencing as Spain had influence over the country for some time. Escrima is very functional and direct just like other Martial Arts. Students learn how to use single sticks, machete, knife, dual weapons, and staff. In fact, we use Escrima as more conventional form of weapons fighting to supplement the various Martial Arts.

Arnis comes from arnés, Old Spanish for “armor” (harness is an archaic English term for armor, which comes from the same roots as the Spanish term). It is said to derive from the armor costumes used in stage plays where actors fought mock battles using wooden swords. Arnes is also an archaic Spanish term for weapon.

Eskrima (also spelled Escrima/Eskrima) is a Spanish word for fencing, esgrima. Their cognate in French is escrime and is related to the English term ‘skirmish’. Kali has multiple theories on its origin.

Angel Barajas

They have an excellent after school program for kids. They have an outstanding program that allows kids to be picked up from my sons school Hoover Math and Science Academy.

Stephanie Fillipan

We love Master Lou and Mary Beth both. My boys have been with Master Lou and Mary Beth since they were three years old now they do the afterschool program where they are picked up from Einstein Elementary school and watched and get to do Taekwondo until we pick them up when we get off work. It’s wonderful! They also are helping parents who have to work during this pandemic and helping the kids who are in school and do E-Learning however many days a week you need them to. For us personally my boys do hybrid school so they go to their elementary school two days a week and the other three days a week I drop them off in the morning at US Taekwondo. I bring them a lunch and they make sure they eat. then after they get done with they’re E-Learning stuff they have a break with a snack and then they start Taekwondo until my husband and I get there to pick them up. I has become such a valuable resource for my husband and I and my boys are just doing amazingly well and I mean in all areas. academically and socially and they are getting the discipline from Taekwondo as well. It’s a win-win in my book!
